Sabri Idrus
Born in 1971, Kedah, Malaysia.
Sabri Idrus seeks to find ways of visual resilience that transcend time, as well as explore the materials of his artwork and himself as an artist in society. During the residency in Fukuoka, the artist plans to research local traditional lifestyles and the history of the Fukuoka Castle Ruins for his artwork illustrating architectural structures using acrylics and paints. Sabri is the Winner of the UOB Painting of the Year Malaysia 2020, organized by the United Overseas Bank in Singapore. The artist will be staying in FAAM for a month.

June 4 Residency Exhibition Events: Opening Talk

Sabri shared his story when he walked around the Maizuru Park and Fukuoka Castle Ruins to seek his artwork’s concepts, as well as his use of industrial paints or powders which are utilized in his experimental style of paintings depicting historical architectures or landscapes.
June 1 Students from CHIJ Secondary school visits the studio

Sabri explained the concept of his works and his experience in Fukuoka after showing the video featuring his previous works to the 12 students from CHIJ Secondary School, Singapore. He also talked about his appreciation in art-making as well as his own techniques of art.
