The 1st Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale 1999 Communication―Channels for Hope

Period
Mar 6, 1999 〜 Jun 6, 1999
Venue

Inside the Hakata Riverain and its vicinity

Commemorating the opening of Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, the 1st Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale 1999 (5th Asian Art Show) is being held.

This exhibition is held every three years, in so-called “triennale” style, to inherit and develop the Asian Art Shows which were held almost every five years in Fukuoka Art Museum since its opening in 1979. Under the theme of “Communication: Channels for Hope”, this exhibition focuses on the artists and their artworks that are interested in human relationships and that try to pioneer a creative channel for communication by using their original art expression.

Another significant feature of this exhibition is dynamic exchange projects involving the citizens and visitors to the museum by inviting more than one artist from each of the 21 participating countries and region in order for open studios, collaboration with the citizens, performance or artist talks and lectures. We would like as many citizens as possible to take this opportunity and directly experience the energy of Asian art and culture.

Furthermore, the exhibition space is not only inside Fukuoka Asian Art Museum but it spreads out to its vicinities like Hakata Riverain. We hope that you will fully enjoy the appeal of Asian contemporary art that offers you a various facet through this exhibition and the various Art Exchange Programme during the exhibition period.
