Jakapan Vilasineekul (Thailand) and Chultem Boldbaatar (Mongolia) participated in our residence program for three months. As the outcome of the two artists’ stay, we hold “Winds of Artist in Residence 2003 Part 1”.
Jakapan Vilasineekul makes art objects with various kinds of materials ranging from common sculptural material like wood, bamboo and iron, to daily and ready-made goods. After his arrival in Fukuoka, he looked around Fukuoka city and reflected what he saw and felt to his artworks during his stay. In this exhibition, the objects and scenery you are used to seeing in the city are changed into his artworks.
Chultem Boldbaartar is an artist of abstract paintings as well as an art historian researching Mongolian ancient petroglyph. In this exhibition, he made an installation work inspired by the ancient petroglyph, using abstract paintings, sheep bones called “Shagai” and stones.
The two artists made their works with each of them in his own way, met and talked with many people, and had diverse experiences within the limited time. We would like you to see the outcome of those exchanges in this exhibition.
