About The Others
The Others
is an art project Candy Bird started in April 2017, that revolves around literature in East Asia, mural, and street art. The artist conducts interviews with the people who migrated from another place, who feel uncomfortable and alienated in their location, or have been regarded as “the other” in that place. Based on each story written by the interviewee, the artist develops the mural, aiming to conclude as a combination of 12 short stories and accompanying murals.

The Others project in Fukuoka
The artist did an open call in March, and started working on paintings based on the text written by Che Yon-Ly, a collaborator and resident in Fukuoka. The text reveals childhood memories of Che, who grew up in Fukuoka and now teaches fine art in Fukuoka Korean Elementary School. By scanning the QR code nearby the work, the audience can listen to the author’s voice which reads out the text.
