The exhibition titled The whiteness of a whale: Moby Dick sightings (1982-2008) , features photography works of Zhao Renhui, an artist in residence from Singapore who stayed in FAAM between March and April 2008.
Zhao visited the Whale Museum in Ohmi Island of Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture and the Museum of Ikitsuki-town, Hirado City Museum, to do some research about whale fishing in Japan.
Eight photography works on display refer to Zhao’s imaginary story, based on a Herman Melville novel Moby-Dick, The Whale, published in 1851, and historical resources on whale fishing in Japan, which the artist explored during his residency in Fukuoka.
