Profile
Kwon Ryeowon is exploring the senses based on lens. She stands at point of staying at the boundary and has a relationship with the undefined. In particular, she is visualizing what is alienated from the surroundings in society through images and space.
Kwon has been invited to join the Exchange Residence Program organized by the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum and Gwangju Museum of Art. She will be staying in Fukuoka for two months as an artist in residence.

March 11 Workshop “A Letter Sent to Myself: Let’s Create a New Landscape Using Photos of Your Memory”
Kwon introduced her works from the previous ones to those on display to the students from Josei Junior High School. Students later joined the workshop and made collage art with photographs they prepared, using stickers, beads, and pipe cleaners.

March 8 Artist Talk
Kwon explained her works on display at each venue on the 7th and 8th Floors, that she wished to represent a boundary between photography and actual objects or ambiguity between the three-dimensional and the two-dimensional. The artist also referred to Momochi-hama, an artificial beach, as one of the locations that left her with a strong impression. She also mentioned that she hopes to evoke feelings similar to Gwangju, a place that appears in between an urban city and nature.

March 6 – 16 Residency Exhibition
Based on her photographs taken during the residency, Kwon presented her installation work Hope to meet again in the M8 Lounge in the museum.

March 5 Exhibition Preparation
Together with the museum staff, the artist worked hard to prepare the exhibition scheduled to start the next day.

February 18 Meeting
Kwon had a meeting with museum staff to discuss the works for exhibition, including how and where they should be displayed.

February 6 Buying Art Materials
On this day, Kwon and museum staff went to hardware stores and craft shops in the city and looked for some materials for her work.

February 5 Hanada Tomohiro visits the Studio
Hanada Tomohiro, previous artist in residence back in early 2023, visited Kwon’s studio. Kwon showed Hanada her previous works and ongoing plans in Fukuoka.

January 29 Visit to the Revo Labo base
Kwon visited Revo Labo base, an art studio for creators, where she saw some available tools and facilities such as photo printers, embroidery machines and a shooting studio.

January 21 First-day Guidance
After the guidance meeting with FAAM curators and other museum staff, Kwon looked at some facilities in the museum such as the studio, curatorial office, and the galleries.
