This time at the Fukuoka Triennale a special section has been set up to display new art movements in particular genres or geographical regions. Mongolian painting has been chosen as the subject of the first special section. In recent years revolutionary new developments have been taking place in Mongolian Painting that goes far beyond its traditional style. Until the early 2000s Mongolian art mainly featured drawing that portrayed the way of life of nomadic herd- ers. Recently, however, the subject matter has undergone great change, shifting to themes on politics, contemporary life and the lives and experiences of women. Further- more, in terms of composition, a dynamic array of experimentation is blossoming. This exhibition brings together the work of 10 artists who, with originality and vigour, are leading this change, and represents the first exhibition globally to introduce new trends in ‘Mongolian painting’.
