In 1990, Fukuoka City jointly worked with academics and private sectors to establish the Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize for the purpose of contributing to the preservation and creation of unique and diverse cultures in Asia.

It is our great pleasure to announce Mr. Ju Ming, a Taiwanese sculptor, as the Arts and Culture Prize laureate of the 18th Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize, 2007.  This exhibition has been organized to commemorate his prizewinning.

Among Mr. Ju Ming’s extensive oeuvre of works, we have selected a representative work from his early years, “Join Hands and Spirits,” and another work from his most notable “Taichi Series” for the exhibition.  We sincerely hope that this exhibition will provide the public a chance to experience firsthand the unique and grand-scale art of Mr. Ju Ming.

It is also our earnest wish that this kind of exhibition will give many people a chance to encounter Asian art and culture and that the prize will contribute to establishing a framework for mutual learning and exchange for the people of Asia.

In closing, we would like to express our deepest appreciation to Mr. Ju Ming, the Ju Ming Museum, the Taipei Museum of Fine Arts, and to all those who have given their kind support to realize this exhibition.
