Tang Da Wu, a visual artist from Singapore, was awarded the Arts and Culture Prize 1999 for the 10th Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize. To commemorate his award, we are pleased to open the exhibition The Documentation of Tang Da Wu and His Works: 1979-1999, which introduces Tang Da Wu’s past and ongoing activities through documentation of photographs.

As one of the representative contemporary artists in Southeast Asia, Tang Da Wu has developed his unique artistic practice founded on his awareness of contemporary issues, realized by an unconventional way of expression. Moreover, Tang Da Wu stood out as a charismatic figure for the younger generations of artists and has become a leading figure in the creative development of contemporary art, not only in Singapore but also across wider regions of Southeast Asia.

Beginning with his visit to Fukuoka this time on his award of the Fukuoka Asian Culture Prize, Tang Da Wu will participate in a six-month exchange program conducted by Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, through which he is expected to develop new art. This exhibition is held as an opening chapter for his upcoming projects.
