Theater is the world of make-believe. As a place of audience idealism and amusement, the theater and stage has lent inspiration to many artists.
The first half of this exhibition focuses on “the alluring qualities held by actors and entertainers” who perform plays and street theater. Artists have depicted in varying ways how actors can sidestep the finality of life to become the character in a work of fiction, and use their craft to lead audiences into the unknown. The exhibition also details the famous actors and major works of Asian popular theater depicted in these works.
The second half of the exhibition casts a spotlight on the people wrestling with the realty of life by “Acting.” This part of the exhibition starts with the photographic works featuring artists themselves as an actor and actress. In the pieces, the artists perform people facing inevitable problems and inner conflict in their life and show the way how to overcome these matters by making it into photographic work. The final part of this exhibition introduces ordinary people surviving in a harsh reality of life under a mask, withstanding various social problems.
This exhibition focuses on the people “Acting” for their lives, on stage, in theater, and even in the reality of life through about 40 artworks.
