‘Arts of People’ is an exhibition series to introduce popular art and folk art that are being produced today while deeply rooted in the life and society in Asian region. These arts were marginalized from the framework of ‘art’ during the modernization process of museums and exhibitions under the value derived from the West. However, they surely have different kind of charm from ‘art,’ which is why they are supported by a large number of the general public. Through holding the series of exhibitions of this kind, the FAAM aims to build up a new framework of Asian art with the value distinctive in Asia.
This exhibition tries to follow the path of Kantha, from the past to the present, how it became Nakshi Kantha in rapidly changing society. We believe that it will enable us to view how the Kantha has come to be positioned as a representative folk art in Bengali region, especially in Bangladesh.
