Wind and Lightning: A Half-Century of Magazine Design by Kohei Sugiura is  the fourth exhibition in the “Crossing Visions” series at the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum.

“Crossing Visions” is a series of exhibition that introduces new trends in contemporary art that spring from transboundary interactions of visual art with other genres such as film, animation, manga, fashion, architecture, design and other forms of visual expression.

This exhibition features Kohei Sugiura who progressively experiments in the field of graphic design — graphic design, editorial design and typography in particular.  Surrounded by highly competent staff, Sugiura repeatedly presents a range of work that continually exceeds our expectations.  Focusing on magazine design, which occupies the central part in his work, approximately 500 of the 2000 pieces he has worked on in the past 50 years are introduced in the exhibition including “Ginka (silver flower)” “SD (Space Design)”, “Toshi-Jutaku (A Monthly Journal of Urban Houseing)”, “Episteme”, “objet magazine Yu (play)”, “Uwasa no Shinso (The Truth of the Rumor)” and “Shizen to Bunka (Nature and Culture)”.  This exhibition gives a perspective on his approach towards visual presentation. It shows the essence of Sugiura’s originality and creativity which has never before been presented in the form of an exhibition.
