Madonnas of the Philippines

Period
Oct 5, 2006 〜 Dec 25, 2006
Venue

Asia Gallery A

This exhibition was planned by the students of AQA Project of the Department of Aesthetics and Art History, School of Letters, Kyushu University, with the support of the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum.  We also hope that this exhibition will be a first break for the museum and the university to investigate new methodologies of museum activities as well as a chance for people to appreciate how the university is trying to contribute to society.

The 17 exhibited pieces from the permanent collection of the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum represent women and reflect Christianity and diverse history and culture of the Philippines.  The title of the exhibition is Madonnas of the Philippines.  The word “Madonna” is used as a fusion of “Christianity” and “woman”. The show is equipped with guiding tools  that invite visitors to play games linked with the display, gallery tours facilitated by university students, and a visitor survey.
