India’s national dress, the sari, comprises a single length of fabric swathed around the wearer. Different regions of India boast their own distinctive traditions of detailed hand-work: from lustrous dyes to embroidery and mirror appliqué. As an export item, the sari has beguiled people worldwide and sparked new fashions in Japan and the West. Comprising over 100 pieces, including items from the National Museum of Ethnology Osaka and work by fashion designers, this exhibition reveals a dynamic, new face of Indian culture.
