- Period
- Sep 6, 2007 〜 Dec 11, 2007
- Venue
Asia Gallery B
The Fukuoka Asian Art Museum presents the solo show of Niloofar Chaman as the forth exhibition of the Contemporary Asian Artists series. Niloofar Chaman who is based on the Bangladeshi port town, Chittagong has a unique artistic creativity among Bangladeshi contemporary artists.
Without being influenced by art trends, she sincerely faces the world she senses, and expresses it with vivid colors, bold structures and storytelling forms. The two different elements of the strong spiritual world and unrestrained forms create uncanny charms in her works.
Paintings, drawings and three-dimensional works in this exhibition range from monochrome painted during her school time in 1989 to paintings depicted imaginary creatures in the early 90s and works used vivid colors from the late 90s to the present, and follow the progress of the artist. Besides, to convey her view of the world, “Niloofar Chaman’s room” is reproduced inside of the gallery space as a new installation work by the artist herself during her stay in Fukuoka. She also does workshops with the people of Fukuoka. In Japan, this is the first exhibition to introduce the Niloofar’s creative world from various aspects which is beautiful as well as charmingly quizzical.
