How do you react when you feel sorrow or anger? Do you speak them out loud or rather keep them in your mind in silence? Your reactions may vary depending on the situation. Sometimes you have someone to tell, but maybe that person might not listen to you and ignore your voice. You could also be hesitant to raise your voice for some particular reason. In our society communication—telling something and understanding it—is essential in order to live. However, unfortunately sometimes due to social situations those voices might not be allowed to be let out or heard.

This exhibition attempts to cast a spotlight on the disconnection of social dialogues by thinking about these unspoken inner voices/listening to these unspoken inner voices. Those living in disparities of wealth and social system, those suffering from oppression by the government, those women suppressed in a male-dominant society, and those socially vulnerable children may not have a chance of raising their hue and be neglected. It is hard for them to get the chance to change their condition when they don’t have a voice or even not allowed to have a voice. Featuring artworks focusing on their situations, this exhibition leads us to where the “Silent Voices” exists.
