Fukuoka Asian Art Museum celebrated its 25th Anniversary on March 6th, 2024.
Since opening in 1999 in Fukuoka as the first museum in the world specializing in “modern and contemporary Asian art,” we have received high recognition from international art scenes through our longtime and pioneering achievements. As we reflect on a quarter-century since opening, we are delighted to start the second term of the Best Collection exhibition, in which we aim to bring out ourselves and share our missions with a broader public by introducing the masterpieces of Asian contemporary art selected among approximately 5,000 collections.

The exhibition features the eight stars of Asian contemporary art, who challenged existing social norms and art scenes with their uncompromising attitude and sharp critical sense. Moreover, it showcases our new acquisition, Camel, by Huang Yong Ping, who raised global acknowledgment of Asian art. The eight artists have built their outstanding careers in Asia and worldwide, developing their distinctively unique art in the Eurocentric contemporary art world and making huge contributions to the art scenes in their home countries. Through the collections, we hope to deliver our visitors a fresh and vibrant energy of Asian contemporary art.
