Long before the Philippines was called The Philippines, two [mythical] brothers, Asu Mangga and Baranugun, rode in an enchanted boat in search of their father. Artist Brenda V. Fajardo has recreated this story in a fairytale – like painting. Her work depicts people of the sea and mountains, and those who have arrived on the archipelago from far away. In weaving these tales together, the painting propels the history of The Philippines into modern times. This exhibition explores many characteristics of The Philippines, an island nation like Japan.
