Modern and Contemporary Asian Art: From the Dawn Age to the Present Day

The Fukuoka Asian Art Museum currently holds approximately 4,000 works (as of April 2022) of modern and contemporary Asian art. This is one of the world’s largest collections focusing on Asian art since the modern period.

The first half of the collection exhibition introduces streams of “Asian art”― 19th-century paintings produced through interaction with Western nations; work of the early 20th century when the art school system was established; and contemporary art from the 1970s to the 2000s.
