■Bruno Ruiz
Residency Period: Oct.5-Dec.25, 2024
Born in 1990 in Mexico, based in Mexico City. While working within the collective Red de Reproduccióny Distribución (RRD), he incorporates self-publishing and a kiosk into artistic practice, which examines the autonomy of art in public space. For this exhibition, while making his own network “enabling underground publishing around the globe,” with people passionate about printing, he presents new work based on research about gariban(mimeograph), together with some references.
■Sugihara Nobuyuki×Nakamura Ayaka
[Residency Period: Oct.8 - Des.25, 2024]
Based in Nagano. Organizer of the annual SHINANO Primitive Sense Art Festival since 2010. Inspired by Azumizoku, the people of the sea described in Kojiki (the Records of Ancient Matters), they have been researching in several places, including Shikanoshima, Buzen, and Tsushima. They plan to incorporate their encounters and certain things that dwell in these regions into their new installation, representing a boat. Through improvisational dances, the artists wish to evoke memories of the boats by which the Azumizoku had traveled.
■ Urakawa Taishi
[Residency Period: Jul.1-Dec.25, 2024]
Born in 1994 in Fukuoka, based in Fukuoka city. Under the theme of “contemporary landscape (perspective),” Urakawa creates paintings combining gradient lines and images found on the Internet. The new works for this exhibition reveal Urakawa’s artistic explorations of Hakata-bei (traditional earthen walls), the images of which underwent deconstruction and reconstruction to form a new landscape.
■ Kamimura Takahiro
[Residency Period: Jul.1-Dec.25, 2024]
Born in 1980 in Kochi, based in Fukuoka. While tackling the question, “what is sculpture?” Kamimura creates sculptures using everyday objects or “trivial” found objects that he kept close and spent long time with. In this exhibition, the artist presents a new installation in which he reconsiders art in public space and the meaning of being an artist by giving alternative functions in his residency studio.
