Curatorial Staff
IWANAGA Etsuko
My curatorial practice specializes in textile art in Asia. I would like to approach something that is in between one thing and another, something that does not accommodate itself in a conventional framework, or something that doesn't exist here. Moreover, I am eager to reconsider the "established theory."
YAMAKI Yuko
I have been working at Fukuoka Asian Art Museum since its opening and have been engaged in numerous sections, including the museum archive, acquisitions, exhibitions, and art exchange and education programs. I am interested in the contemporary works of traditional paintings across Asia, which have developed since before their encounter with modern Western art.
IGARASHI Rina
My focus on research is to delve into the scene where Asian art is born, especially in Bangladesh, Bengal, and Myanmar from the viewpoint of cultural anthropology. By introducing our rich collections of art and various activities, I am willing to provide new perspectives through Asian art.
KUWABARA Fumi
My fields of research are primarily focused on modern and contemporary art in Vietnam and across Southeast Asian regions. I am interested in the conditions that led to the fruition of artistic expressions perceived as "national" in today's context. I am also curious to find out what was subjected to exclusion from these conditions.
SASAKI Gentaro
I specialize in contemporary art in China and related topics in the field. I am also interested in the way Kyushu/Fukuoka interacts with the other Asian regions and its historical backgrounds.
KURODA Raiji
I am working to organize our museum archive of Asian artists and Asian art exhibitions that have been accumulated over 40 years. I am also working on editing and updating the website of Asian Art Resource Room. Sometimes I do some research in relation to the artists and artworks in the museum collection.
SHIMAZU Honoka
I am working on organizing resources of artists and artworks, updating the collection database, and handling of copyrights. I hope to contribute to preserving and developing our museum's Asian art archive.
TSUMORI Yoko
As a librarian, I am in charge of organizing library resources and references. At the reference library on the 8th floor, I wish to provide visitors with a better and deeper understanding of the museum collection. In the art cafe on the 7th floor, I am willing to encourage people for their encounters with new books.
MIYAKAWA Midori
I work on international contacts, providing Japanese-to-English translations of texts and at talk events held within the museum. While I remind myself to be aware of each individual's different languages, backgrounds, and experiences, I wish to contribute to bridging the museum and its visitors.
NAKAO Tomomichi
I am in charge of the Artist in Residence and Learning programs. Through the lens of Asian art, I look forward to building a platform for dialogue in relation to the ecosystem of globally interactive contemporary society.
CHO Sunhye
I have been researching and curating several exhibitions while delving into the visual art expressions of the Asian diaspora and minorities. I am eager to comprehend our world through art while standing alongside artists of the contemporary.
KAMACHI Masae
I am appointed to work for the Learning program, Artist in Residence Program, and the management of various activities with museum volunteers. My interest is in our encounters with Asian art and what changes it may bring to us. I also hope to explore the function and role of art in contemporary society.
LEE Sohyun
I welcome group visits from schools and organize student learning programs. Based on my previous working experience in the art museum in Korea and through the learning programs I work to offer in the museum, I hope to create an environment in which the younger generations have fun experiences through art.
FUJII Izumi
I am working to organize the Artist in Residence Program. I hope to create an inspiring and welcoming environment where the museum, artists, and the local people interact with each other through the residency program.
SAKAI Yukako
I am in charge of the visual design of posters, flyers, and handouts in the museum. I hope to encourage visitors to be interested in and have a better experience in the museum.
MATSUMOTO Ayaka
