Artist Talk: Residence Program 2013 Part 2

Two artists from Mongolia and India participate in Residence Program 2013 Part 2 of the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum. They stay in Fukuoka from 11 September to 23 November, and make artworks and do workshops involving the people of Fukuoka. In “Artist Talk,” they will tell about their plans of art-making and workshop in Fukuoka.

◆ Baasanjav Choijiljav [Mongolia]
Born in 1977 and based in Ulaanbatar
One of the foremost young artists in the field of Mongolian painting known for his caricature-like style and political reference. In Fukuoka, he will create a work that draws on traditional Mongolian painting, and incorporates themes of Fukuoka life and activities and conduct a workshop.

◆ Sameer Tawde [India]
Born in 1978 and based in Mumbai.
The artist creates photographs and video works featuring culture, history, and folklore. Sameer has photographed automata and Hindu mythology-based plays, which can be found throughout Mumbai for contributing to a project compiling images of the culturally significant automata. During his stay in Fukuoka, the artist will make conduct some researches on Japanese Karakuri automata to create his work. He will also hold a workshop of stop motion animation.
