Photography Exhibition by Zhao Renhui The whiteness of a whale: Moby Dick sightings (1982 – 2008)

The Fukuoka Asian Art Museum started to provide an artist-in-residence program to a winner of “the UOB (United Overseas Bank) Painting of the Year Competition” which is held in Singapore. This year Zhao Renhui who received the distinction award of the 28th competition, participated the program for three weeks from 10 March 2010. By visiting whale museums in Omishima, Yamaguchi and Ikitsuki, Nagasaki, he researched whaling in Japan and history between Japanese people and whale for his works. He shows photograph works to tell a fictional story based on the novel, “Moby Dick” by Herman Melville.

Zhao Renhui (Photographer) Born in Singapore, 1983. Works in Singapore and UK. Graduated from Camberwell College of the Arts, University of the Arts London, UK in 2008. Received Distinction award of UOB Painting of the Year in 2009. Stayed in Fukuoka from 10 March to 1 April 2010. Produced 8 photographs under a name of a fictional organization, “The Institute of Critical Zoologists”.
