New Acquisition 2016-2019
■Period:28 March, 2019 - 25 June, 2019
■Venue:Asia Gallery
Fukuoka Asian Art Museum’s modern and contemporary Asian art collection has grown into approximately 3,000 works in the last 20 years. Approximately one-fifth of the collection were inherited from Fukuoka Art Museum, and the rest have been acquired in preparation for the creation of the museum, in 1996.

Asia Gallery (permanent collection gallery) has introduced more than one hundred works in each themed exhibition, and the newly acquired works are introduced every few years. This time, we would like to introduce about 60 from the 118 works newly acquired between 2016 and 2019.

A major part of the new collection was acquired through our special exhibitions. Young artists’ works were acquired through the "5th Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale 2014," and historic works were acquired through "Toward the Modernity: Images of Self & Other in East Asian Art Competitions" (2014) and "Blaze Carved in Darkness: Woodcut Movements in Asia 1930s-2010s" (2018) exhibitions.
