Winds of Artist in Residence 2013 –Part 2-

The Artist in Residence Program Fukuoka Asian Art Museum (FAAM) invites emerging artists from Asian countries and regions to promote diverse artistic and cultural exchange programs though art-making and workshops.

For this year’s second term of the program, Sameer Tawde from India and Baasanjav Choijiljav from Mongolia were invited and stayed for 70-days of May. We are pleased to announce an exhibition, Winds of Artist in Residence 2013- Part2-, highlighting the achievements of the artists during their time in Fukuoka.

Artists
Sameer Tawde(India)
Born in 1978 and based in Mumbai. 
The artist creates photographs and video works featuring culture, history, and folklore. Sameer has photographed automata and Hindu mythology-based plays, which can be found throughout Mumbai for contributing to a project compiling images of the culturally significant automata. During his stay in Fukuoka, he conducted a series of researches about Karakuri automata and created photo works focusing on the Karakuri culture. (Stayed in Fukuoka: 11 September -19 November 2013)

Baasanjav Choijiljav (Mongolia)
Born in 1977 and based in Ulaanbatar.
One of the foremost young artists in the field of Mongolian painting known for his caricatures-like style and political reference. In Fukuoka, he created works that draws on traditional Mongolian painting incorporating themes of Fukuoka life and people’s activities and also conducted workshops. (Stayed in Fukuoka: 11 September -19 November 2013)
