Studio Ghibli Layout Designs

Produced on a single sheet of paper to explain every detail of a cut, including the background imagery in relation to characters, instructions for movement, camerawork and filming, layouts are essential to the production of animated features at Studio Ghibli.

With the full cooperation of Studio Ghibli, this exhibition of about 1300 animation layouts, dating from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind to Studio Ghibli’s latest release features work mostly by Miyazaki Hayao, along with layouts by both directors of the studio, Takahata Isao and Miyazaki including before the founding of the Ghibli.

This exhibition also delves one layer deeper into the world of beautiful layouts full of imagery and explores the secret of the world-famous studio.
