Into the Grassland - Light and Darkness of Mongolia
■Period:31 March, 2011 - 28 June, 2011
■Venue:Asia Gallery A
Tserendashin Davaakhuu "The New City" 1988
Mongolia is known for its immense plains, skies and deserts, and a centuries-old nomadic culture shaped by an awe-inspiring landscape. Not surprisingly, Mongolian art is redolent with the power and mystery of nature, and the animals so integral to daily life. Some art depicts the positive side of communism during the country's transition to modernity, while works created since the 1990s democratization process show the darker sides associated with communism, modernization and Mongolia's complex history. The works in this exhibition are intended to reveal the light and shaded aspects of Mongolia from the 1960s to the present.
